GTA 6 on PS5 vs Xbox: Price, Bonuses and What Differs

Almost nothing. GTA 6 costs the same on PS5 and Xbox in 15 of the 17 countries we checked, both stores unlock it at the same minute, and both editions carry the same bonuses. The real differences are small: how long you get to redeem the free GTA+ month, how much room an Xbox Series S has, and the Philippines, where only PlayStation sells it. Buy it on the console you own.

We have tracked PlayStation Store prices for our GTA 6 price on PS5 guide since pre-orders opened. This week we pulled the same prices from Microsoft’s Xbox store catalog for every one of those countries, and read the two store listings line by line, to see what actually differs.

Price: the same almost everywhere

New ZealandNZ$139.95NZ$139.95

The Ultimate Edition follows the same pattern: $99.99 on both in the US. The two rows that do not match exactly:

  • Mexico only looks different. The PlayStation Store shows MX$1,292.24 before tax and adds 16% IVA at checkout (Xataka México); Xbox shows MX$1,499 with tax already in. You pay the same MX$1,499 either way.
  • The UAE is the one real gap. The PlayStation Store charges AED 299.16 (about $81.46 today), while the Xbox store lists $79.99 in US dollars. Depending on your card, the dollar price may also pick up a foreign transaction fee.

Editions and pre-order bonuses: identical

Both stores sell the same two editions. Pre-order either one before launch and both stores add the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+. The Ultimate Edition’s list of extras, from the ’95 Grotti Cheetah to the five extra places, reads the same on both listings; the full list is in our PS5 price guide. Boxed copies on both consoles hold a code to redeem on the store rather than a disc (VGC).

The GTA+ month: different deadlines

This is the one bonus where the small print differs. Store listing

  • PS5: redeem it by March 31, 2027, whenever you pre-ordered (PlayStation Store (US)).
  • Xbox: redeem it within 180 days of placing your pre-order (Xbox store). Pre-order on October 11, 2026 and the deadline is April 9, 2027. Our calculation

The catch is for early Xbox buyers. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 (Rockstar Newswire), and 180 days from then is December 22, 2026, about a month after launch. If you pre-ordered on Xbox in the summer, redeem the month soon after November 19 rather than leaving it. The PlayStation listing also says the month renews automatically; the Xbox listing does not mention renewal either way, so check your subscription settings after redeeming.

Unlock time and pre-load: the same moment

Microsoft’s catalog lists the same release minute as the PlayStation Store in all 15 regions where both sell the game: midnight Eastern for the US and Canada, local midnight in most other countries. Pre-load opens on November 12 for digital pre-orders on both. Every region’s time is in our unlock times ledger, and the hour pre-load opens is on pre-load times by region.

The exception is the Philippines: the PlayStation Store sells GTA 6 there, but Microsoft’s catalog has no edition on sale.

Storage: the Series S is the tight one

Rockstar has not announced the file size. Here is what each console has free out of the box, measured at launch:

ConsoleUsable
PS5 (launch model), 825 GB Source: GameSpot~667 GB
Xbox Series X, 1 TB Source: Digit~802 GB
Xbox Series S, 512 GB Source: TechRadar~364 GB

If GTA 6 lands anywhere near the 150 to 250 GB that people are guessing, it could take up most of a Series S’s ~364 GB on its own. Clear space before November 12; the pre-load guide has the options for each console.

PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X

The PlayStation listing marks GTA 6 PS5 Pro Enhanced, and Microsoft’s catalog tags it Optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Those labels say each version was built for that hardware. Neither Rockstar nor the stores have published resolution or frame-rate targets for any console, so we are not comparing performance; anyone who claims one version runs better is guessing until reviews arrive. Not announced

Do you need PS Plus or Game Pass?

No. Both listings describe GTA 6 as single-player, and the Xbox listing says so in as many words: “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.” Sony and Microsoft only require their subscriptions for online multiplayer.

So which should you buy it on?

The one you already own. The price, the bonuses and the unlock time are the same, and a purchase on one console does not carry over to the other. If you pre-ordered on Xbox early, note the GTA+ deadline above. If you are on a Series S, start clearing space now.

How we checked

  • PlayStation prices were copied by hand from each country’s store page on 2026-10-07.
  • Xbox prices come from Microsoft’s public store catalog, the data behind the Xbox store, read for the same countries on 2026-10-09.
  • Bonus and GTA+ terms are quoted from the US listing on each store. Other countries’ listings may word them differently.
  • Stores can change prices and terms at any time. We recheck before launch and the date above moves when we do.
