GTA 6 Preload: When It Opens in Your Region

Space, steps and pre-load times by connection speed are on our GTA 6 pre-load guide. This post answers one narrower question: at what hour on November 12 can you start, where you live?

Where the hour comes from

Three pieces fit together. Rockstar set the date, November 12, for digital pre-orders (Rockstar Newswire). The PlayStation Store lists a “7-day pre-load” on both editions and an unlock time for each region (PlayStation Store (US)). And Screen Rant reported in July that pre-loading starts at midnight local time, citing Rockstar. Seven days before each store’s unlock time lands on November 12 in every region, and at local midnight in most of them, so the three agree. Our calculation

Rockstar has not posted an hour itself, so treat the table as the best estimate the public data allows. No region on the list changes its clocks between November 12 and 19, so the local hour is the same on both dates.

Local times. The game unlocks exactly seven days after pre-load opens; every region’s unlock time is on the release time page.

Three places to read twice

• The US West and Central time zones. The US store works on one clock, Eastern. If pre-load follows the store’s unlock the way the 7-day listing suggests, Los Angeles can start at Wed, Nov 11, 9:00 PM, the evening before. Screen Rant’s “local midnight” would mean waiting three more hours; we think the store clock is more likely, but neither is confirmed.
• The Philippines. Its PlayStation Store uses the US window, so by our count pre-load opens at 1 PM on November 12 in Manila, not midnight. Microsoft’s catalog has no Xbox edition on sale there.
• Mexico. Mexico’s store keeps its own midnight, so pre-load opens at Thu, Nov 12, 12:00 AM, an hour after New York.

How long you have, and how long you need

Seven days is a lot of slack: even at 25 Mbps, a 250 GB game would take 22h 13m in the best case. The risk is not the speed, it is not starting. Three things stop a pre-load from running on its own:

• Not enough space. The size has not been announced; clear at least 250 GB before November 12.
• The console fully off. It has to be in rest mode (PS5) or sleep (Xbox) with internet access on.
• A boxed copy not redeemed. The box holds a code; the pre-load only starts once that code is on your account.

A sensible plan: check space this week, put the console in rest mode the night of November 11, and look on the morning of November 12. If it has not started, open GTA 6 in your library and choose Install.

What would change these times

An hour from Rockstar would replace our calculation straight away. So would a store changing its unlock time, since the pre-load hour is worked out from it. We recheck the PlayStation and Xbox listings before November 12 and again when pre-load opens, and this post, the pre-load guide and the countdown change the same day.
