Is GTA 6 Delayed Again? The Full Release Timeline

The short answer lives on our delay tracker, which changes the day the date does. This post is the long version: every date change with the day it happened and where it was announced, how Rockstar’s earlier games slipped, and the few events between now and launch that would show a third delay coming.

Every date change, with sources

Only two kinds of announcement have ever moved the date: a post from Rockstar and Take-Two’s quarterly results. Both delays were announced in early May or early November, the weeks Take-Two reports. Confirmed

Both times Rockstar gave the same reason, more time for quality. In May 2025 it said it needed “this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve”; in November it said the extra months would let it “finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

How Rockstar’s last three big games slipped

Two delays is normal for Rockstar. Red Dead Redemption 2 was also delayed twice, and every one of its last three big releases moved at least once. What matters more is what happened after the final date was set.

The pattern: once Rockstar picked a specific day for GTA V and Red Dead 2, it kept it. GTA IV is the exception, and it is a real one: Take-Two pulled it ten weeks before its October 2007 date, within a day of executives reviewing the latest build. So a late delay has happened before. It is the only one in the last three games, and it came straight from Take-Two.

What to watch before November 19

These are the dates where a change would show up. Until one of them says otherwise, plan for November 19. Our read

• Take-Two’s next quarterly results, early November. Last year’s were on November 6, and that is the day the second delay landed. The 2026 date is announced a few weeks ahead on Take-Two’s investor site; it will fall about two weeks before launch.
• Pre-load opening around November 12. The PlayStation Store lists a 7-day pre-load, so it should open a week before launch. If it opens on time, that is a strong sign the launch build is done. Sizes and times are on the pre-load page.
• Store unlock times. Each PlayStation Store region already lists when the game unlocks; we track them on the release time page. A delay would change those listings the same day.

How to tell a real delay from a rumor

“GTA 6 delayed again” posts circulate every few weeks. Every real change so far came from Rockstar’s own channels or Take-Two’s results, and was widely reported the same day. If a claim cites only an unnamed insider, a screenshot or a retailer listing, it is not a delay.
